Remembering Tara Antipathes Jagrat - RIP My doggy

Remembering Tara Antipathes Jagrat

Nov 4, 1989 - Oct 4, 2008

Tara nini Boat

Our beloved Schipperkee was a character right from the start

She squirmed, wiggled, ran and jumped her way into our heart

She was the funniest little thing who was also very smart

As the years rolled by we imagined that we would never part

There was nothing that Tara loved more than riding in our boat

We taught her how to hydra slide, swim, jet ski and float

Her life jacket had a handle and we carried her like a tote

She played in waters near our home and oceans quite remote

There is one sound above the rest that reminds us the most of her

It is a demanding, sassy, give it to me now, foot stomping grrrr

When Tara wanted a treat, to go outside or just to be clever

She called out to us with “a look” that said we better not defer

If Tara did something wrong she yawned as if to say, “So what?”

When aggravated she sneezed on us and ran off with a strut

She made us laugh with her silly ways; she really was a nut

And even when she challenged us we loved our crazy mutt

Tara loved everyone she met and was devoted to her family

The cute T-shirts she wore made her the hit at every party

She thought she was a big dog and defended us so boldly

She toured from Tennessee to Key West and Cat Cay to Hawaii

For almost nineteen years, Tara was our best and truest friend

Although she could not hear or see, she loved us until the end

When her time came to say goodbye she slept and caught her wind

We send her off with love because this world she must transcend

We celebrate Tara’s life, and our tears are tears of joy

For the blessings of knowing her, enhanced our own life story

We know that she is happy now and can see the light of glory

She hears the Captain call her aboard and greet her with AHOY

Our little boat captain is sailing on to a happier life above

If we seem to smile for no reason, she is whom we are thinking of

Tara Antipathes Jagrat, rest in peace with your guardian dove

We will never forget you our little pet who gave us so much love

Aloha Tara

Until We Meet Again

You are our little angel now

God Bless You and Us – Amen

USA Your right to public access to internet DECISION NOV 4

USA Your right to public access

to internet DECISION NOV 4

A huge decision is going to be made on Election Day that could change the lives of millions of Americans.

And it's not about Obama or McCain.

On Nov. 4, the Federal Communications Commission will vote on whether to open unused television airwaves to provide affordable Internet services nationwide.

Tell Washington: Open the Airwaves for Everyone

Opening up these vacant airwaves -- called white spaces -- might be our best opportunity to close the digital divide.

They can transmit an Internet signal over mountains and through concrete walls. But that hasn't stopped the National Association of Broadcasters from deploying their lobbyists to try to keep us from delivering a better Internet for everyone.

FCC engineers just completed an exhaustive study that shows white spaces can be used to connect millions to the Internet without harming TV signals. But the NAB doesn't like the results, and they're trying to get Congress to intervene.

Right now, NAB lobbyists are lining up outside the doors of Congress. Sen. Bill Nelson needs to hear your side of the story:

Tell Your Senator: White Spaces Belong to the Public

It's time we ended the NAB's decades-long effort to control our airwaves. We must move quickly to make sure we don't lose this tremendous opportunity to connect all of America to affordable Internet services.

In rural parts of the country, more than 75% of TV airwaves sit vacant. Even urban areas, where the spectrum is crowded, stand to gain from opening white spaces. Making these airwaves available for Internet access has bipartisan support at the FCC and in Congress. It just makes sense.

On Nov. 4, the FCC needs to simply follow good science with good policy -- shedding outdated standards that have placed our airwaves under the lock and key of the broadcasting lobby.

Time is running out. Make your call today:

You can quickly write at http://www.Congress.Org

Unless we urge Congress and the FCC to push back against the NAB and open up white spaces, we could miss out on one of our last, best chances to build a better Internet for everyone.

Thank you for taking action,

Timothy Karr
Campaign Director

PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE NOW

PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE NOW

Subject: Protect Your Right to Vote Now

We are on the eve of one of the most historic elections of our time. And the last thing America needs right now is another election that leaves us uncertain of its legitimacy.

Unfortunately, there are enough shenanigans going on to raise serious concerns.

The biggest of them all: Attorney General Mukasey and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are walking away from their sacred responsibility to guarantee smooth and fair elections.

While the government is engaged in a highly-publicized attempt to raise the specter of voter fraud against groups who have been working hard to register poor and minority voters, DOJ is doing little -- if anything -- to deal with the real problem -- hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of registered voters who may turn up on Election Day just to be turned away.

I just asked the DOJ to take decisive action before Election Day to protect the right to vote for everyone. You can do the same here:

Election officials should concentrate their limited resources on expanding access to the ballot box and protecting voters. Demand that the Department of Justice act to protect voting rights.

http://action.aclu.org/protectthevote

It took me one minute to use the link to send a letter.

Do you have a minute to spare to protect your right to vote?

Save Endangered Right Whale from Navy Sonar Training

Save Endangered Right Whale

from Navy Sonar Training

FROM NRDC:

We need your immediate help to stop the Navy from building a major sonar training range off the coast of Florida.

Please go to

http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/protect_whales_fl

and tell the Navy to reconsider its plans for a 500-square-mile sonar range in the waters off Jacksonville, near critical habitat for the highly endangered North Atlantic right whale.

A few years ago the Navy proposed building the same Undersea Warfare Training Range (USWTR) off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, next to a key migratory route for North Atlantic right whales. Due to overwhelming public opposition, the Navy was forced to abandon its plans.

Now, the Navy is setting its sights on Florida's sensitive marine habitat, and it's urgent that they hear from you right away.

This massive sonar operation would assault whales, dolphins and other marine life with a year-round barrage of deafening sound. As before, the Navy's proposal does nothing to address the potential harm and death to marine mammals, and the Navy still refuses to adopt commonsense safety measures.

The Navy's latest plan is still dangerously close to the only known calving ground and migratory path of North Atlantic right whales. Only about 300 of these whales are believed to exist today.

Tell the Navy to reconsider its proposal unless it can put a broader set of protective measures in place for marine mammals in the region. Go to

http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/protect_whales_fl right away.

Thank you again for taking action in support of marine mammals off the coast of Florida.

Sincerely,
Frances Beinecke
President
Natural Resources Defense Council

There is still time to save the whales if you ACT NOW.
It will only take a couple of minutes to respond at the link.

What National Pet Store Supports Puppy Mills?

The Humane Society
of the United States: STOP PUPPY MILLS

November 25, 2008

Dear Hawaiian Safari Girl,

Maybe you saw Oprah’s show on puppy mills earlier this year, and wondered how this cruelty can persist and who’s responsible.

Today, The Humane Society of the United States released the results of a shocking investigation showing that pet store chain Petland Incorporated is the nation's largest retail supporter of puppy mills. The cruelty must end – watch our video and take action today.

Our national, eight-month investigation shows that Petland stores in multiple states are marketing dogs from cruel puppy mills to unsuspecting dog buyers. The investigation into Petland stores in Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, and other states revealed that many of the puppies sold at these stores came from massive commercial breeders in Missouri and other states in the Midwest where hundreds of breeding dogs are packed into filthy, crowded cages.

Most of the puppies bred at puppy mills are eventually sold over the Internet or through pet stores, including many Petlands in the U.S. The unseen victims are the mother dogs who are forced to live their entire lives behind bars – without exercise, without socialization, without ever being part of a family or even seeing the outside of their cages.

We are committed to stopping puppy mill cruelty, but we can’t do it without your help. The holiday puppy-buying season is in high gear, so please watch our video and then tell Petland to stop selling puppies.

Then contact your nearest Petland franchise to tell them to get out of the puppy-selling business.

Thank you for your commitment to stopping puppy mills and for all that you do for animals.

Sincerely,

Wayne Pacelle

Sustainability Tip of the Week:
Users Guide to the Backyard Chicken Movement

In cities across the U.S., health and organic-minded "locavores" are starting to raise their own chickens. This backyard farmers movement is a direct result of the birth and evolution of the "eat local" consciousness. On a city by city basis, a nationwide grassroots campaign is gradually convincing municipalities to drop previous laws that did not allow small flocks of poultry to be raised in city limits. "Fresh is not what you buy at the grocery store. Fresh is when you go into your backyard, put it in your bag, and eat it," said Carol-Ann Sayle, co-owner of an urban farm in Austin, Texas, located within walking distance from the state capitol. "Everyone should have their own henhouse in their own backyard."

A LETTER FROM NRDC RE OFF SHORE OIL DRILLING

A LETTER FROM NRDC

RE: OFF SHORE OIL DRILLING

I wanted to bring you up to date on our fight against coastal drilling, because you played such a critical role on this issue over the last many months.

Here's the bad news: before it left on recess, Congress voted to lift the 26-year-old ban that protected our coasts from offshore oil drilling. The oil giants will now be allowed to operate as close as three miles off the spectacular coastlines of California, Florida, the Carolinas and other vulnerable states.

The pressure on Capitol Hill was intense. President Bush and Big Oil have been pandering to economically-stressed Americans for months, promising that "Drill Here, Drill Now" is the panacea for high gas prices. In the end, members on both sides of the aisle swore they were only doing the bidding of their constituents.

That may be, but those constituents are going to wake up tomorrow with a bad case of buyer's remorse. Oil from new coastal rigs won't reach gas pumps for ten years. When it does, the impact on prices will be negligible. In the meantime, our most beautiful beaches will face the threat of catastrophic oil spills, global warming will intensify, and oil companies will grow richer.

This summer's oil shock was the loudest wake-up call we've had in thirty years. Congress could have responded by passing visionary legislation, championed by the NRDC Action Fund, to make cars get 50 miles per gallon and put millions of plug-in hybrids on the road, powered by a cleaner electric grid fed by renewable energy.

Galvanized by your support and activism, we fought hard for that vision of a clean energy future, but we couldn't prevail in the face of so much political fear. Congress panicked, then doubled down on the Bush-Cheney energy fiasco by giving away our coasts.

Now the good news: this fight is far from over. For starters, coastal drilling can't begin without a prolonged process of environmental review and lease sales. That task will fall to the next president. No matter who that is, I can promise you this: any president who proceeds with coastal drilling will meet a buzz saw of legal opposition from our partner organization, NRDC.

And, in a sign of better things to come, this Congress did improve fuel efficiency standards for vehicles, and it did extend tax credits for solar, wind and other renewable sources of energy.

Come January, the NRDC Action Fund will be back on Capitol Hill making the case that America's environmental and economic salvation lies in a high-tech, clean energy future -- one that creates millions of jobs, cuts global warming pollution and kicks our oil habit once and for all. With the election season behind us and a new Congress awaiting us, I believe our cause will prevail in 2009.

I know we can count on you to make your voice heard in the new Congress. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Frances Beinecke

President

NRDC Action Fund

P.S. You can help us stop coastal drilling and fight for clean energy legislation by making an online donation now: https://www.nrdcactionfund.org/coastaldrilling_102008 Your support will help us wage and win the next rounds in this battle to save our coasts and kick America's oil habit.

You Are A Keeper

You Are A Keeper

All that re-fixing, reheating, renewing,

I wanted just once to be wasteful.

Waste meant affluence.

Throwing things away meant you

knew there'd always be more.

But then my mother died

and on that clear summer's night,

in the warmth of the hospital room,

I was struck with the pain of learn ing that

sometimes there isn't any more.

Sometimes, what we care about most

gets all used up and goes away...never to return.

So... While we have it...

it's best we love it...

And care for it....

And fix it when it's broken.....

And heal it when it's sick.

This is true...

For marriage....

And old cars....

And children with bad report cards.....

Dogs and cats with bad hips....

And aging parents....

And grandparents.

We keep them because they are worth it,

because we are worth it.

Some things we keep.

Like a best friend that moved away

or a classmate we grew up with.

There are just some things that make life important,

like people we know who are special....

And so, we keep them close!

I received this from someone who thinks I am a 'keeper',

so I've sent it to the people I think of in the same way...

Now it's your turn to send this to those people

that are 'keepers' in your life.

Send it back to the person that sent it to you

if they too are a keeper.

Good friends are like stars . . . .

You don't always see them,

but you know they are always there

How To Give a Cat and a Dog a Pill

How To Give a Cat and a Dog a Pill

If  you have a cat or a dog, you will love this one...read to end where it tells you how to give a dog a pill.......

How to Give a Cat a Pill

                        1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby.  Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand.  As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth.  Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

                        2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa.  Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

                        3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

                        4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand.  Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger.   Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

                        5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

                        6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws.  Ignore low growls emitted by cat.   Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

                        7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains.  Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

                        8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit.  Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

                        9. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

                        10. Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed.  Get another pill.  Open another beer.  Place cat in cupboard, and close door onto neck, to leave head showing.    Force mouth open with dessert spoon.  Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

                        11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges.   Drink beer.  Fetch bottle of scotch.  Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect.   Toss back another shot.  Throw Tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

                        12. Call fire department to retrieve the damn cat from across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat.  Take last pill from foil wrap.

                        13. Tie the little bastard's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed.  Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of filet steak.  Be rough about it.  Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

                        14. Consume remainder of scotch.  Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye.   Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

                        15. Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

Gitmeleriyle kendilerini yalnız bırakanlara,AŞIK olurlar.....

Bu böyle sürüp gitmeyecek biliyorum
Bir sabah bir dilencinin avuçlarına bırakacağım kalbimi
Kim ne derse desin
Tahammülüm kalmadı artık

Nasılsa döneceğin yok senin
Çıldıracağım bu gidişle
Allah kahretsin!..
Dünya ateşler içinde
Savaşlar almış başını gidiyor
Afrika'da insanlar açlıktan ölüyor
Bense bu gidişle sensizlikten öleceğim
Umurunda mı senin?
Allah kahretsin!..
Hangi masaya otursam
Senin sevdiğin içkiyi koyuyorlar önüme
Vazomda senin sevdiğin çiçekler
Ve dudaklarımda hep senin sevdiğin şarkılar
Senin doğum günlerini kutluyorum senden habersiz
Ve her sabah dualar ediyorum mutluluğun için
Ne yapsam, ne etsem, nereye gitsem

Allah kahretsin!..
İşte böyle bir sevda benimkisi
Bu zamanda, bu devirde
Haklısın adam olacağım yok benim
En güzeli artık son vermek bu hayata
En korkunç uçurumlardan bırakmak kendimi
Ya da en yüksek tepelerden
En uçsuz bucaksız denizlere bırakmak bedenimi
Ama içimde sen varsın

Once upon a midnight, eerie,
While I read with eyes so bleary,
The propositions, their pages and pages,
I realized then that reading them all would take
ages and ages.
While I nodded my brain a fuzzing,
Suddenly, there came a buzzing,
As if some wings were in a flutter,
Caught outside upon the shutter.
"'Tis the wind," my lips did mutter,
"Blowing a leaf---'Tis that, and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember,
It was early in a bleak November,
That I read the propositions
And the politicos' positions
On the use of pesticides
In the air and on our tides.
Then again there came a flutter
Out upon my window shutter.
"'Tis the wind and nothing more."

Presently my soul grew stronger.
Hesitating then no longer,
Opened I the shutter door---
Darkness there and nothing more.
Deep into that darkness peering,
Long I stood there, wondering, fearing.
But the silence was unbroken,
By the words that were unspoken:
"'Tis some creature that's awoken.
Merely this and nothing more."

When soon again I heard the flutter,
That racked my soul with a somber shudder.
"Surely," said I, "Surely this is something
At my window---
Surely, that is not the wind though,
All my soul cried for this answer:
"'Tis the wind and nothing more."

Open again I flung the shutter.
Then with many a flit and flutter,
In there flew the dreaded Medfly.
And then did he about my head, fly.
For a moment did he watch me,
Slowly circling above, about me,
'Till he stopped and calmly sight he,
A landing place upon my right knee.
Thinking then of Malathion,
I asked him then, "Would you die on,
My knotted knee?" that he did lie on.
Quoth the Medfly: "Nevermore."

Much I marveled at this pest,
Upon my knee as he did rest.
Though its answer little meaning.
For we can't help all agreeing,
That no Medfly hiding or fleeing,
Had survived, despite what I was somehow seeing.
Hadn't the spray served in all occasions?
How much longer must we see invasions?
As if his soul in that one word did he outpour,
Nothing further had he uttered.
Not a wing had he fluttered.
Till I scarcely more than muttered.
With a voice that nearly stuttered,
"There's some Raid within my cupboard.
I can find it, though it be cluttered."

Suddenly, his wings did flutter,
At my hasty words of war.
And in a moment he had headed,
Headed toward my chamber door.
Springing then onto my feet,
For the kitchen I did retreat,
Grabbed the can and then I beat,
A path to my chamber, the fly to meet.

In the room I quietly stand,
With the can clutched in my hand,
Waiting patiently for him to land.
And when he did, the spray I fanned!
Then me thought, the air grew denser,
Poisoned as if from an unseen censer.
"Wretch!" I cried as I grew tenser.
Suddenly I felt like I was choking.
Quoth the Medfly loud an clear:
"Raid!? After Malathion, you must be joking."
Then to the window he did flutter.

And through the space beside the shutter.
Then to freedom he flew and darted,
With these words as he departed:
"I'll be back forever more!"

Many weeks have now gone by.
Narry a once have I seen the fly.
But hark! What do I hear upon my shutter?
Could it be? Is that a flutter?
Will I again be plagued once more,
With those buzzing words of yore,
Words that say: "Forever more"?
